Can I Use Pull Ups When Potty Training
Do you really think using Pull-Ups would help you along this potty training journey? There is truly only 1 scenario in which Pull-Ups for Potty Trainingare ok and that is when there’s a likelihood that your recently potty trained toddler might go to sleep.
If you’re going on a trip, or out and about for the day, and your child might go to sleep in the car, then putting a Pull-Up on him is ok. Or, for a nap and at night, when you're not yet confident that he can make it through sleep without an accident, then a Pull-Up is ok. Otherwise, leave the Pull-Ups off.
And, when you have your child in a Pull-Up, it is Not ok to assert to him, “Well, since you have your Pull- Up on, you can just potty in your pants.” No! No! No!
You need to treat a Pull-Up JUST LIKE regular underwear, taking your child to the bathroom frequently, and never say it’s ok for him to just go potty in his Pull-Up. He is in the middle of learning NOT to potty in his pants, ever. He won’t understand if you say it’s ok since he’s got a Pull-Up on. Got it? !
Now, if he has got an accident in his Pull-Up, just treat it extremely matter-of-factly and take care of it. No punishment, no anger. There can never be any negativeness around potty trainingno matter how irritated you could be! Count to 10. Deep breath.
Don't make a big deal out of an accident. This can put negative energy around the experience and turn it into a frustrating ordeal. This is exactly what you need to avoid.
Your youngster will be potty trained before you know it. You’ll look back and laugh at these moments, guaranteed!
“To bring up a child in the way he should go, travel that way yourself once in a while.”
